The Story
Why a retired IT manager ended up running a laser engraver in Leland, North Carolina.
Hi, I'm Grandpa J
I spent decades in IT, the kind of work where you rarely get to hold what you made at the end of the day. When I retired, I wanted the opposite of that — something physical, something a little slower, something I could hand to a person and watch them actually like it.
That's where 262Workshop started: one laser engraver, a stack of wood and slate, and a habit of proofing every single order myself before it gets cut. Two years and a few hundred orders later, that habit hasn't changed — whether it's one coaster for someone's anniversary or three hundred gifts for a company holiday party.
262 Finds grew out of the same instinct. Etsy is great for one piece at a time, but when a wedding, a company, or a school wanted something bigger — a live engraving station, a bulk order, a fundraiser — they needed a place to actually talk to a person about it. So now there's this.
What stays the same
Whether it's a single gift or a 300-piece corporate order, nothing gets cut until a real human — me — has approved the design.
No overseas fulfillment, no drop-shipping. Every piece is engraved in my own workshop.
If something doesn't fit our usual menu, message us. Most of what we make started as someone asking "could you also do...?"
